Fluxx offers opportunities for professional actors to take part in occasional intensive weekends or performance projects. The classes are useful for keeping in training since they involve interactive games and exercises as well as more structured, character or narrative-based sequences. The performance projects range in scope from Night, London (2009), a three week run of shows in the West End, to Without Planning Permission, the current show.
We see improvisation as a core practice that has a wide range of applications; for actor training, for creating devised shows and for impro as performance. You can find more information by looking at the Calendar pages or by contacting admin@fluxx.co.uk
Workshops are usually led by Chris Johnston, the Fluxx Director. We have in the past engaged other teachers such as John Wright, Kevin Tomlinson, Guy Dartnell, Lois Weaver, Ansuman Biswas, Sten Rudstrom (Germany), Shawn Kinley (U.S.A.) and Andre Bessing (Holland).
The company’s work is referenced extensively in THE IMPROVISATION GAME (DISCOVERING THE SECRETS OF SPONTANEOUS PERFORMANCE) by Chris Johnston. You can find details of the book here
Chris Johnston has two other books currently in print; firstly HOUSE OF GAMES (MAKING THEATRE FROM EVERYDAY LIFE) which you can find here and FOR THOSE WHO LIKE TO SAY NO (Drama Games), which can be found here
